Siberians Half a Century Ago material from Marina Zamyatina, cattery "Sibirskiy Dvor" - Tyumen' (Siberia) Here you can see 2 pictures - one where Marina is holding her first Siberian cat at age of 5 (the cat was the same age as Marina), it is the only picture of her truly Siberian cat that was saved until these days - it was taken in 1965 (long before cat clubs started to exist in Soviet Union and the standard for Siberians was written in Leningrad). To find out about today's situation of Siberians in Siberia and Russia read Marina's letter. The second picture-copy is from the ”Short Encyclopiedy of House Keeping” Moscow 1959, article - "House Cats." The article doesn't describe the type differences, only mentions names of known cats and how to take care of cats, but provides with pictures of all house cats known at that time (50es) in Soviet Union. Picture # 1 & 2 are Siberians; 3 & 10 Angoras; 4 ,8, 9 - Persian; 5 Siamese; 6 "tailless" or bob tail; 7, 11 short hair. |
